Christopher Columbus Role Plays

As part of our ‘Discovery topic’, children have been researching Christopher Columbus and his Voyage of Discovery.  They then used their research, to present a game show in pairs where they acted as the interviewer and Christopher Columbus and presented the information that they have discovered in a question / answer session.  You can see the pictures below:

Harry Potter Potions!

This week Year 6 are writing instructions and as a hook into our writing lesson, we made our own Harry Potter potions.  We watched a short clip of the film and then designed our own recipe and created it from a selection of gruesome ingredients.  This enabled the children to plan their instructions ready to write tomorrow.  You can see the video below.

Year 6 film at Smithills Hall

As part of our literacy writing work, the children have been writing their own version of the TV show ‘Most Haunted’.

A few weeks ago researched the alleged ‘ghostly encounters’ at Smithills Hall and then wrote reports about what we had discovered.  Today we visited Smithills Hall to film our reports so that we can produce our videos during our ICT lessons.

Crucial Crew

Today Year 6 took part in the Crucial Crew workshop in Bolton which involved talks and activities from the Police, Bolton Road Safety Team, Bolton Lad’s and Girl’s Club and also first aiders.

The children received some fantastic ‘life skills’ advice and thoroughly enjoyed the workshops!

Science visitor

As part of aspiration day we had Professor Jones visit our class and explain about his role as a medical physicist.  He gave an amazing presentation which was a great insight into his role at Christie’s Hospital.

As part of science aspiration day Year 6 are currently creating posters encouraging us to work hard for success to provide us with motivation.  To do this they are researching famous scientists and the words they have used to motivate themselves.

Year 6 Persuasive Writing

Today we began our work on persuasive writing in Year 6 with a trip to our local park.  We explored the facilities and assessed the condition / suitability of the equipment.  Following this trip, we will now write letters to persuade the local council to make improvements to the park.   You can see the pictures below:
