Year 6 have been receiving expert football coaching in their PE lessons this half term with One Goal. They have looked at developing their key skills and also looked at principles of attacking and defending. You can see the pictures below:
Today was the Key Stage 2 sports day and the children competed in their PE groups in a number of events including sprinting, throwing, the sack race and the egg and spoon race. The points from each event have been collected and the final standings are:
1st – Ball
2nd – Craven
3rd – Whiteley
4th – Khan
It was a fantastic afternoon which was thoroughly enjoyed by all of the children and parent spectators too. You can see pictures from the event below:
Today we hosted the Farnworth cluster schools Year 5 and 6 rounders tournament on our school field. 8 schools took part and the children had a fantastic time competing. Well done to Highfield and Kearlsey West for competing in a closely fought final, which Kearsley West won with the final ball of the game. You can see pictures below:
Today, we hosted the Farnworth schools Year 3 and 4 dodge ball tournament. It was an excellent afternoon and the children demonstrated some exceptional skills in this sport. Well done to the winners – Our Lady of Lourdes who beat Highfield in the final to win the cup. A huge well done to everyone who took part for their effort in the matches this afternoon.
Today the children took part in the Farnworth cluster Year 5/6 football tournament at All Saints Primary School. We had a great start to the afternoon, winning our opening two matches and making it through to the finals stage. Unfortunately, we were beaten in our two ‘finals’ matches which meant we came third overall. This is still a fantastic achievement and we showed some fantastic skills, determination and sportsmanship. Well done team!!
This half term, Year 2 and Year 6 are again working with One Goal to receive expert coaching in our PE lessons. . Their lessons also focus on the ‘6 habits’ (attitude, behaviour, courage, determination, effort, friendship) which children can apply in other areas of the curriculum too. You can see some of the pictures below:
Year 3 and 4 took part in a tag rugby competition against other local schools, which was organised by Kearsley Academy. You can see the pictures below:
Today Year 5 and 6 were visited by two rugby league stars from Salford Red Devils – Lama Tasi and Justin Carney. They came to talk to the children about what it takes to become a professional sportsperson as part of our aspirations week. Both Lama and Justin told us all about the sacrifices they have made to achieve their career and also the hard work which they have put in. One of their key messages was that ‘you only fail if you give up’ and that is something we hope to remember in our own PE work.
We have also arranged for over 40 children and parents to attend the Salford Red Devils first home game of the season this Saturday against Wigan Warriors, with many experiencing rugby league for the first time! Enjoy the game everyone!
