Year 6 26-27

After a delicious lunch, the children set off on their activities. The children are having a great time on their activities.

The children have worked extremely hard over the past few weeks and many are keen to continue to do some small amounts of revision over the Easter break, to ensure they hit the ground running when we return to school.

Therefore, we have put together a revision pack for children which involves ’10 for 10’ activities, designed to be done over ten days during the holiday to keep their skills sharp. 

Of course, it is vitally important that the children relax and enjoy their break, but just 20 minutes a day will really help them to be prepared for their upcoming SATs tests.

Additionally, there have been some optional tasks uploaded onto ‘Emile’ for children who want to do more specific learning on a variety of tasks and they can also choose their own tasks on Emile should they wish. 

The reading and maths 10 for 10 booklets are attached to this blog as well as several mini GAPs activities.

Please encourage your child to do a little revision during the holiday to support them in the final run up to SATs.

In the document below is a grammar paper which has links at the side of each question.  The children can try the questions and if they get stuck, they can click the link to play a game which helps them revise that skill.  (I have check and one or two links do not work but the vast majority of them do).

Yesterday year 6 blue spent some time with Emma Martin who creates artwork for cultural assets. The class spent time constructing leaves from willow branches and paper. Once the leaves were dry the children then decorated the leaves with text art. All art work will be on display as part of “Growing Farnworth’s Future” exhibition being held on Saturday 14th March at the new Farnworth Library. Everyone is invited to attend the exhibition, it will be a great opportunity for you to see your child’s artwork. More information about the exhibition will be sent home with your child.

We are planning to order leaving hoodies for the year 6 children. The hoodies can be ordered in a range of sizes and various colours. The cost of the hoodies will be £22.

Hoddies need to be ordered via a MS Form and paid for on Parent Pay. Ordered must be complete by Monday 16th March.
Once the order has been received from the supply company, children will be able to wear the hoodie for school.

Please complete the MS Form to place your order and ensure payment is made via Parent Pay. Size guides and the colour options available will be sent via email and are attached to this post.

Leavers Hoodies 2026 – Fill in form

This morning, Global Policing came into to explain our Invacuation procedures, they discussed the difference between evacuation and Invacuation and what to do if there was a potential risk on the playground.

Whilst this is extremely rare our main priority is to keep all the children safe and calm.

As part of our Geography topic, ‘Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Climate’, Y6 Green have been learning how to locate places (in this case, the world’s volcanoes) using six-figure grid reference, including Eastings and Northings. It was a bit tricky to begin with, but they soon got into the swing of it! Well done!

Year 6 blue had a brilliant time taking part in the Straw Bees workshop. They started the day by using straws and connectors to create catapults with the single aim… use it to fire ping pong balls at Mr Lane! Some were close! They then used this knowledge of construction to create the body of their robots. They also used a Micro Bit to programme their robots, making them make sounds, display messages and wave using a servo. This meant that the children had to create a range of algorithms in order to carefully programme their robots and debug where necessary. What a great day!
