Year 3 Green wore their investigation caps today and experimented in their science lesson. We learned that water is transported within plants through xylem in the stem. We observed the vascular system in a Celery plant stem because it is easy to see. Children used magnifying glasses to observe the xylem.
We placed a celery stem with leaves in a glass of water mixed with strong, powdered red food colouring. We will leave it for 24 hours and observe the results tomorrow.
Children drew and labelled a diagram and made a prediction about what they think will observe tomorrow and why they think this will happen.

This term our topic in science is plants and how they grow. Y3G learned the process of pollination through an interesting activity. Children dived into different characters as flowers and pollinators to understand how a flower is pollinated.

On Friday in Science we investigated what affect refraction had on certain object when in water.

What a fun morning year 1 had planting seeds in science. We can’t wait to see our flowers grow!

This week reception have been learning about minibeasts! We have been exploring the habitats that they live in by going on a minibeast hunt. We have shown lots of care to these insects and learned lots of interesting facts about them.

Today we planted cress seeds. We decorated our pots and talked about the criteria that would help the plant grow.

Today we went on a winter adventure with NowPressPlay. We learnt about the different types of weather we experience in winter and what clothes we need to wear. We found out about which animals may hibernate and how we have less daylight.

Today we made predictions about who has the biggest hands in the class. We then measured our hands using cubes and then recorded the results. We used the data to see if our predictions were right!

This afternoon we had a great time investigating materials. We tested foil, newspaper, sponge, plastic, felt, tissue and card to see if they were waterproof or absorbent.

Today Year 1 Green went on an Autumn adventure. We saw leaves changing colour 🍂, hedgehogs hibernating 🦔 and put our woolly jumpers on!
