6 Green had an eventful World Book Day, listening to parts of George’s Marvellous Medicine, before exploring the character of Grandma. They were also introduced to our new class text, Escape From Pompeii, where they created their own blurbs. During the morning, also they listened to our fabulous guest author, Jen Carney! Finally, in the afternoon, they used Play Doh to model scenes and characters from their favourite books. There were some great models with such a wonderful, diverse range of stories. We had a lovely day!

We had a great time practicing our throwing and catching skills in preparation for playing rounders!

In Science, Year 6 Green have been learning about Evolution. Today, we used Play-Doh to model the steps in an evolutionary journey (example: fish to Nile crocodile). We had great fun and the children did a fabulous job of thinking about what creatures might have looked like millions of years ago.

Today’s Commando Joe’s session involved a lot of team work and a little ‘guile’, using tactics to successfully steal cones from opposing teams without being caught. It was cold, but the children were excellent! Well done!
On Tuesday we learned all about sleep. We talked about how we can make sure we have good quality sleep and what effects we might feel if we don’t. We have committed to trying to improve our sleep so we can be as focused and motivated as possible.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our pop-in today. It was a pleasure to welcome you and let you know about all the amazing opportunities we are developing in Reading. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to share in our writing journey with Francis too! Thank you also for all your support at home.

This week, the children in 6 Green have been learning about Healthy Minds. They have discussed what is meant by a ‘healthy mind’ and ways in which we can try to achieve this. They also explored ‘personality islands’, looking at how our life experiences and emotions link together to help form aspects of our overall personalities. Finally, they looked at self-worth and belief, identifying their strengths and things that they would like to further develop about themselves.
We had a brilliant session with Shades this morning. We learned lots about diversity and valuing everyone. We now understand how important it is to ask questions if there is something that we do not understand or that we want to know more about. It fit in wonderfully with our Christian values for this term – respect and tolerance. We also learned that our class are very good at giving complements so look out for some coming your way!

This morning we have taken part in a live assembly with Picture News. We learned all about what mental health means, talked about all the different things that can affect our mental health and how we can work together to improve our mental health. It was really interesting and helped us think about things we had not considered before that could impact on our mental health.
