Grace from Dementia Friends visited year 1 today to tell us all about dementia. We learnt that dementia a disease but that it is NOT the most important thing about a person who suffers from dementia. Grace told us all about how dementia can affect people and how others can support people with dementia.

The Alzheimer’s Society is Year 1’s class charity and so now the children know more about what they are fundraising for this year.

Week 6 – Y5B
5 (1)

It was another busy week here in Y5B this week. Our class novel is continuing to be exciting and emotional as we follow Billy Plimpton on his journey to find his confidence and achieve his dreams. This week Billy did himself proud and completed his speech. Our football session with Rees Sports was high energy with lots of passing, tackling and controlling the ball. We ended our week with some thoughts around mental health. We asked questions such as ‘How might we react?’ ‘How would that make us feel?’ ‘Is there a different way?’. We have a better understanding of how feelings and actions affect ourselves and others.

World Mental Health Day

Today we have focused on different emotions. We shared experiences of these emotions and discussed what we should do when we are sad, scared or worried.

We also focused on our emotions in our computing lesson, using our keyboard skills to write about how we were feeling today. The children there enjoyed painting themselves showing their emotion!
